About Wintergreen Island

default

Come enjoy the 1000 Islands and the beautiful St. Lawrence River from Wintergreen Island. We are conveniently located near between Clayton and the 1000 Islands Bridge, near the head of Wellesley Island.

We have 6 cottages on our private 2 acre island property. The Laundry House is our rental cottage that is currently available as a vacation rental and all others are booked seasonally. Please contact us if you are interested in a long-term rental.

Wintergreen Island is owned and operated by Debbie Green and her son Zach Russell. Debbie’s father, Jack Wheeler, purchased the island in 1983 from the previous owners.

Zach, currently manages the day-to-day maintenance and oversee the Laundry House reservations for Wintergreen Island. They live in the Ice House cottage 8 months out of the year and in Clayton for the winter months.

Wintergreen Island has always been a little piece of paradise. The property was built in the 1890s and has seen many changes over the years. The main house was previously run as a bed and breakfast known as Whippoorwill Lodge. Now it is used as two separate summer cottages.

Many families have spent their summers in our cottages including the 4 bedroom Boathouse apartment, 3 bedroom West cottage and our recently renovated vacation rental – the 2 bedroom Laundry House cottage.

We are currently planning renovations for the Tourboat cottage. The Edith II is a retired 1940s tourboat turned into summer cottage by the previous owner, Jerry Russell. This cozy cottage has amazing views of Clayton and a features a private dock.
